Grade A Customary Court, Mapo, Ibadan, Oyo State, has adjourned the divorce suit brought before it by a woman, Aishat Zakiyirat, against her husband, Tajudeen Zakiyirat.
Aishat in her suit accused her husband of maltreating her.
The plaintiff explained that the defendant took to consulting spiritualists and attending prayers after he was told that someone was behind his woes.
Aishat added that Taofeek once requested that she went with him to see a spiritualist who accused her of being a member of a cult.
She added that he poured water on her and hit her continuously with a broom.
The plaintiff stated that her husband since this incident has been hostile towards her.
According to her, he took to beating her, denied her some rights in the home and later sent her packing.
Taofeek refused to come to court after being served court summonses.
Aishat in her evidence said: “My lord, my marriage to my husband is far from being blissful. My experience since we got married in 2015 is hell.
“My husband on noticing that things weren’t taking shape as he thought in his business took to attending prayers and consulting spiritualists.
“Taofeek has in his possession a list of spiritualists whom he visits on regular basis.
“He gave himself no rest of mind from the time these spiritualists told him there was someone seeking his downfall. He took their lies hook, line and sinker.
“Taofeek seeking an enemy which did not exist became unapproachable at home, while he also gave his business little or no attention.
“He also started visiting miracle centres and always insisted that I went with him.
“I did this reluctantly so that peace would reign and any time I refused, he would keep malice with me for almost a month.
“His family members, noticing that he had offered himself as a feast to these spiritualists who kept exploiting him, warned him to desist from seeking their help, but he turned a deaf ear to them.
“I went with him to one of these spiritualists and got the shock of my life.
“This seer accused me of being a member of a cult and hinted that I was behind my husband’s challenges.
“He poured water on me and beat me with a broom countless times.
“I had bruises all over my body and was in much pain.
“I told my sister my horrible experience with the seer and she became irate.
“She confronted my husband and his family members and this brought a strain in the relationship between my in laws and me.
“My husband became hostile towards me and same with my mother in law.
“Taofeek took to beating me and would not leave me until I had wounds and I bled.
“He also collected my phone and the key to my shop and left me frustrated.
“Not done, my husband sent me packing.
“My lord, I’m tired of my marriage to my husband. I pray this honourable court to put an end to it,” Aishat stated.
Ruling after she had heard the plaintiff, the court president, Mrs S.M Akintayo, adjourned the case till March 7.
