A woman, Aminat Atilola, recently entreated Oja Oba/ Mapo Court C Customary Court, Mapo, Ibadan, Oyo State, to dissolve her marriage to her husband, Femi Atilola.
Aminat, who approached the court, sought for divorce on the grounds of irresponsibility by her husband.
According to her, Femi constantly shirked his responsibility in the home and passes the bulk to her.
The plaintiff explained that she was the one feeding her family, training their children in school and paying the rent.
Aminat added that Femi was diabolic and attempted to use charm on her during sex.
She stated that the worst of her experience in her marriage was that of coping with her husband’s smoking habit.
According to Aminat, the only thing her husband was good at was smoking Indian hemp.
The plaintiff further stated that the defendant once smoked wraps of Indian hemp, got high and attempted to stab her in bed.
Aminat told the court she might not be as lucky as the first time if her husband made another attempt at her life.
She explained that their children were still young and never received any attention from their father.
According to her, if she dies, they will suffer.
She thus appealed to the court to end their marriage and grant her custody of their children.
Femi refused to come to court after being served court summonses at different occasions.
Aminat in her evidence said: “My lord, I wish I could undo the past. I regret ever getting married to my husband.
“My husband is a lay about and an irresponsible fellow. He never believes that the running of the home is his responsibility.
“I have been bearing the burden of the responsibility of the two of us in the home since we got married because he has refused to be awake to his duties towards me and our children.
“I am over stretched and fagged out due to engaging in hard labour in order to meet our children’s need.
“My lord, I am the one feeding my family. Our children never go to him to make their demands or request because he has never being there.
“After feeding him and the children, I again look for fund to train our children in school. Femi knows nothing about their education or their performance in school. He doesn’t even know how much I pay as their school fees.
“My lord, just as I am heaving a sigh of relief after paying our children’s fees, our house rent will be due. I will again start running from pillar to post with the aim of gathering money so that we will not be thrown out by our landlord.
“This is how I live my life from one year to the other, racking my brain, calculating and living in fear because of paucity of fund.
“My husband never shows any concern towards my plight.
“All he is interested is having sex with me and smoking Indian hemp.
“My lord, my husband is not only irresponsible but diabolic.
“I stopped having sex with him the day I discovered he wanted to use charm on me during sex. I guess he wanted to use me for ritual purpose.
“Femi’s day is made when he has wraps of Indian hemp to smoke. He feels the whole of our apartment with the horrible smell of Indian hemp when smoking and starts to misbehave when he is high.
“He once attempted to stab me in bed while I was fast asleep when he was high but I escaped by the whiskers.
“My lord, if I continue to stay under the same roof with my husband, he will one day kill me and leave our children with no hope for tomorrow.
“I, earnestly pray the court to end our union and grant me custody of our children, “she pleaded.
Ruling, the court president, Chief Ademola Odunade dissolved their wedlock and granted custody of their children to the plaintiff.
The defendant was mandated to pay N10, 000 every month as their children’s feeding allowance and be responsible for their education and health care.
A copy of the judgment was instructed to be served him.
