Muslim media practitioners advise FG on security

Published by

THE Muslim Media Practitioners of Nigeria (MMPN), Oyo State chapter, has called on the Federal Government to address the security situation in the country which it said is becoming increasingly intense.

The organisation, which made the call in a communique issued after its monthly meeting held last Sunday, urged the Federal Government to take pragmatic steps to address the lingering insecurity and the threat it posed to the peace and unity of the country.

In the communique, signed by the chairman, Alhaji Ridwan Fasasi and three other members, Alhaji Adebayo Abdur-Rofih, Mr Ismail Fasasi and Mr Adegoke Ibraheem, the MMPN also called for full autonomy for local government administration to enhance good governance at the grassroots.

The organisation expressed the belief that full autonomy would encourage elected chairmen and councillors to work effectively with security operatives and traditional rulers to manage security “as every crime is local.”

It also called on the Federal Government to address issues bordering on the autonomy of the judicial and legislative arms of government at the state level.

The MMPN urged all and sundry to keep to COVID-19 safety protocols, warning that evidence had shown the Delta variant of the virus to be deadly.

The organisation called on Muslims in Oyo State to participate in politics and stop being indifferent to political activities at all levels.

Religious bodies, it said, should get involved in sensitisation on the importance of the ongoing INEC continuous voters registration and ensure collection of Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) at the appropriate time so as to be eligible to participate in future elections.

The MMPN also charged the bodies to, as a matter of patriotism, mobilise the faithful for enrolment in the ongoing National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) registration and linking of National Identification Number (NIN) with SIM cards.

It admonished parents and guardians to encourage their children and wards to acquire vocational skills that could make them financially empowered in the face of job unavailability and losses.
