Most people partake on reality shows without focus — Tacha

Published by

Anita Natacha Akide, popular as Symply Tacha, was a housemate on Big Brother Nigeria 4, ‘Pepper Dem’ edition. Now, she is a contestant on another reality TV show, the 37th edition of MTV’s ‘The Challenge: Spies, Lies and Allies. In this interview, she spoke to Friday Treat on life as a reality TV star and the all-new side of Tacha that fans will get to see.

You were on BBNaija, then your own reality show and now this new one on MTV; it’s like you have the blueprint on how to be the ultimate reality TV star or is it your forte?

Yes, I have always been a TV person, I love entertainment, and most importantly, I love to challenge myself. I just basically love to be in situations where I literally have to push myself to do much more than I ever think I can do. That is what inspired reality TV for me. I love entertainment and I know that I am a very entertaining person. This is coupled with the fact that I love to challenge myself, I love new things and I am always striving to learn and know more. It also helps me meet new people. In the course of having to do TV, you always have to meet new people, and that is interesting as well.

Based on your last experience, how prepared were you for the MTV Challenge?

It’s airing already, and I would say that being involved in a previous reality TV show, Big Brother prepared me for the MTV Challenge show. When you are in a house with several people that you have never met before, people from all walks of life, and you have to co-exist with them, work with them and be in teams with them, so definitely, that experience prepared me for this other show.

But the physical challenge and the extreme challenges that come up for the challengers were new for me. My team got me a trainer that helped me get prepared for the show.

What unique quality do you believe you are bringing to the MTV Challenge this year, a show that has been on since 1996?

That I am in the 37th season of the show is bringing spice. I brought all shades of Tacha and there’s definitely a new side to Tacha that viewers should be excited to see.

Tell us about this new side of Tacha on the show?

The mentally, physically prepared Tacha.

On what platforms would the show be airing locally?

The show will be airing every Monday on DStv Channel 322 MTV Base and GOtv Channel 72 MTV Base.

How does it feel to be one of the first Nigerians to be part of the show?

It feels amazing and exciting because my first show was BBNaija, and then my next show is a US/American show. It felt even more exciting to know that I am one of the first Nigerians to be on the show. It is a great feeling.

Do you think your fans are ready for this new Tacha?

The fans are so excited. They even got T-shirts printed with my name in front and the challenge at the back. They have been so receptive towards the show, and they are very happy that they are getting to see their Tacha on screen again. It’s a win-win for Tacha and the fans.

As someone who is experiencing reality TV the second time, what advice do you have for others looking for fame through reality TV?

Try and identify why you want to be famous. I feel like people don’t ask themselves this question before jumping on TV, and it ruins things for them at the end of the day. If you are going there to be famous so you can promote your music or something you are doing, then that’s good. But if it is just for the sole aim of fame, I’m not sure what to say because one has to be intentional and deliberate with these things. There must be a back end reason. Of course, reality TV is not the only road to me. I was big on social media long before Big Brother.
