Monitor your children on social media, don tells parents

FOUNDER and Spiritual Head of Shafaudeen-in-Islam worldwide, Professor Sabit Ariyo Olagoke, has advised  parents and guardians to monitor the use of social media by their children,  adding that the positive use of social media must be encouraged for the promotion of socialisation and enhancement of learning opportunities, communication usage and other beneficial use.

The  Islamic cleric  said this on Sunday at the international headquarters of the Mission at Wakajaye,  Ibadan, The Oyo State  capital, while speaking on “The youth and social media: Impact on development,”  as part of activities to mark the annual Shafaudeen Sisters Daawah Circle.”

“The negative use should be discouraged because of its negative  effects such as fraud and poor academic performance. Emphasis needs to be made on using the social media for news information, opinion sharing, business development, cultural production and education to have positive impact on the society.

“For these, all hands must be on deck, parents and youth inclusive to save the society from the social media induced moral degeneration from going into endemic decay.

Enumerating the positive impact of social media, Olagoke said  that social media facilitate political change with a quick, cost effective method of information dissemination and people mobilisation  with consequent increased voter lecture at this time participation, adding, it avails users opportunities of marketing, connecting and business transaction with professional touches. Job seekers get easily employed through online contact advertisement of the employees.
