THE Muslim Media Practitioners of Nigeria (MMPN) has commended the Oyo State government for declaring a public holiday to mark the first day of the new Islamic year, Hijrah 1443.
The chairman of the MMPN in the state, Alhaji Ridwan Fasasi, who gave this commendation in a statement in Ibadan on the occasion of the beginning of Hijrah 1443 A.H., said the state governor, Mr Seyi Makinde, deserved praise for redeeming his pledge to declare Hijrah holiday in the state.
Alhaji Ridwan Fasasi implored other states to emulate the gesture and urged Governor Makinde to put the holiday in government’s gazette so that successive administrations would follow suit.
The MMPN chairman called on Muslims to use this period to reflect with a view to improving their relationships with God “as Hijrah means migration from immorality to godliness.”
He called on Muslims to create time to pray for the peace and unity of the state and the country and ask Allah to bring an end to the coronavirus pandemic.
