MMPN charges govt on security

Published by

THE Oyo State chapter of the Muslim Media Practitioners of Nigeria (MMPN) has appealed to Nigerian leaders to do more to address the security situation in the country.

In a statement in Ibadan to commemorate this year’s Eid-al-Adha, the state chairman of the organisation, Alhaji Ridwan Fasasi, said it was high time the Federal Government in particular adopted urgent and pragmatic security strategies.

Fasasi lamented that hardly would a week pass that there would not be incidents of banditry, kidnapping and farmers/herders’ clash, whereas such happenings used to be alien to Nigerian societies.

He expressed regret that the poor security in the country had caused regions, states, communities and individuals to resort to self-help, a development which, he said, might be counter-productive.

The MMPN chairman noted that the security lapses were responsible for the increasing agitations for the breakup of Nigeria, saying that the development had become a major threat to the unity of the country.

He, however, advised secessionist agitators to have a rethink and team up with the government and the security agencies to bring about lasting peace as tearing the country apart might end up in jeopardy.

Alhaji Fasasi Muslims to imbibe the spirit of obedience, love, kindness and equality that Eid-al-Adha celebration stands for in their day-to-day activities.

He said the faithfulness and fear of Allah by Prophet Ibrahim and his son, Ismail, which led to the celebration, should be emulated by all.

He implored the faithful to co-exist peacefully with adherents of other religions and all Nigerians should see one another as brothers and sisters.
