Minimum wage: It’s illegal to tamper with the minimum wage ― Kaduna NLC

The Chairman of the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC), Ayuba Magaji has said it is illegal to tamper with the minimum wage.

He made this known before delivery a position letter to the Speaker of the Kaduna State House of Assembly, Alh Yusuf Zailani on Wednesday.

Accompanied by thousands of workers who held placards with different inscriptions some of which read, ‘We demand the withdrawal of Datti’s anti-workers bill,’ Why is our representative against us, ‘We say No to Datti’s bill etc, the NLC leader said the bill is unacceptable to the entire workers of the state.

According to him, the bill sponsored by the Member of the House of Representatives, representing Sabon Gari, Garba Datti who is incidentally from the state is against the workers of the state, saying, we call on him to withdraw the bill.

“The Governor is paying the N30,000 minimum wage and every month by 25th workers of the state receives their salary, so we wonder who is he trying to please,” he declared.

Commenting further, Magaji posited it is illegal to tamper with the bill without amending the constitution.

‘So I know as lawmakers you are better informed about it and we pray you will do the needful in the interest of our the workers.

Thereafter he delivered the letter to the Representative of the speaker, Alh Ahmad Mohammed who is also the chairman House committee on Appropriate and finance.

Mohammed promised to convey their letter to the Speaker.
