Governor Olusegun Mimiko of Ondo state on Monday inaugurated the International Event Center (DOME) in Akure, the state capital after the Acting President, Prof Yemi Osinbajo failed to turn up for the inauguration of the event center for the second time.

Osinbajo who was billed to commission the Event center on Friday last week blamed the bad weather for his inability to attend the commissioning.

However the commissioning was rescheduled for Monday but the Acting President failed to turn up for the commissioning again.

The event which was scheduled for I:00pm was delayed till 4pm before the state governor, Mimiko, commissioned the center, while no reason was given for Osinbajo’s absence.

Speaking during the inauguration of multibillion Event Center, Mimiko said the event center was part of is administration drive to boost the economy of the state.

According to the governor, the event center also represented the dream of his administration in turning the state to a tourist center, saying the facility was put in place to meet the unexpected high demands by the public for event purposes.

He explained that based on the unfolding realities in the state, there is need for event centers that are of international standard.

He however said the event center had hosted the Nigerian Society of Engineers, Nollywood Award and many other events before its completion saying “the Event Center unarguably the best in the country today.”

Speaking during the commissioning, former Secretary to the Federal Government, Chief Olu Falae, commended Mimiko for his “penchant for the welfare of the people.”

Falae stated that testimonies of Mimiko’s projects are abound across the state saying “Mimiko will be greatly missed by the people of the state.”

He said “I hope other governors will build on the foundation laid by Mimiko in the future.”

He has laid a solid foundation for the development of the state. You have done your best and I am satisfied and when I said I am satisfied you know I am.”
