Military rescues 15 kidnapped victims in Bayelsa, uncovers illegal refineries, stolen oil in Rivers, Delta

The military has rescued 15 kidnapped victims in Bayelsa State in its efforts to end insurgents activities in the country

This was contained in a statement in Abuja on Tuesday by the Coordinator, Defence Media Operations, Major General John Enenche

According to the statement, the victims held hostage in five speedboats by the hoodlooms were rescued in an operation by the troops of Sector 2 while on routine patrol at Nembe Owelesu, Bayelsa State

It stated that the suspected kidnappers, on sighting the troops gunboats, escaped into the creeks, leading to the rescue of the victims

In a related development, the statement revealed that a Nigerian Navy Ship, acting on a tip off, intercepted and arrested three barges laden with illegally refined Automotive Gas Oil (AGO) at AGIP waterfront over involvement in illegal bunkering activities.

It added that the military team also intercepted another barge laden with suspected stolen crude oil around Okochiri River entrance.

According to the statement, the troops of Sector 3, Operation DELTA SAFE, conducted raid on four Illegal refining sites along Dema Abby-Oputumbi-Nanabie-Promise Land- Otobie and Ogono general area.

Items discovered during the operation include seven boilers, nine storage tanks, eight metal tanks, one dugout reservoir all filled with stolen crude oil, eight metal tanks, 18 metal drums, 11 reservoir tanks filled with illegally refined AGO and Dual Purpose Kerosene (DPK).

Others are two empty Cotonou boats, one generator set, one pumping machine, two welding machines, one filing machine, rolls of hose, and one speedboat with 75 HP engine
