As a way of sharpening knowledge and skills of teachers in public secondary schools during this school closure occasioned by COVID-19 pandemic, the Lagos State government has partnered Microsoft to train a total of 18,000 teachers on digital literacy.
The training, which commenced on Monday and is being handled on behalf of Microsoft by ATB Tecnosoft Solutions, is tagged ‘Work-from-Home, Remote Teaching and Larning for Lagos State Secondary School Teachers’.
Commissioner for Education, Mrs. Folasade Adefisayo, gave this hint in a statement made available by the head of public affairs of the state’s Teaching Service Commission (TESCOM), Mr Kayode Sutton, saying the training will not only sharpen the knowledge and skills of teachers on digital education, but will also keep them meaningfully engaged.
According to her, the training will cover creation and sharing of subject contents and use of mobile phones to access classes making them interactive; diagnose learning needs and challenges; facilitate giving of assignments and feedback, quiz participation, grading and mentorship, among others.
Similarly, the chairman of TESCOM in the state, Mrs. Elizabeth Ariyo, said the training would be sustained as part of Microsoft’s social investment in education in the state.
She commended the company for the gesture, saying the training would greatly enhance the performance of beneficiaries in imparting right knowledge and skills in the younger generations.
