Massive job creation, support to govt central to our business ― EGIL

The Management of Expand Global Industries Limited (EGIL), operated by Henkel, has said that the critical roles of multilevel job creation, support to the government and the economic development of Nigeria are central to its business in Nigeria.

The firm said through its extensive local distributor network, it provides thousands of jobs across the country with an estimated contribution of around 5,000 direct and indirect jobs in Nigeria. The company generates direct employment for more than 1,000 people in the Ibadan plant.

Additionally, a growing industrial ecosystem comprising of local toll manufacturers and suppliers, support the daily operations such as raw material sourcing, packaging, transportation, trade marketing etc; thus, contributing to the economy locally while satisfying the domestic demand for products.

As a global player, Henkel, as of the end of 2019, employs 52,450 people globally, of which about 36.9 per cent of them are women.

Aliyu Jibril, EGIL’s Human Resources Manager, who made these known recently, said Henkel in Nigeria has continuously invested in the improvement of the production tools and the Safety Health and Environment (SHE) standards in its Ibadan site. Thus, contributing to satisfy the local demand for products that combine high performance, reliability and quality.

“EGIL aims to be a strong contributor to the Nigerian economy while supporting its driving forces and empowering talents with the ultimate ambition to produce for Nigerians by Nigerians,” he said.

“Through training opportunities such as ITI schemes, as well as Henkel’s internship programme, the company aims to foster the next generation of youths in the industry and encourage them to achieve their career aspirations. The Ibadan plant also holds regular plant tours for local schools and colleges.”

The company has also been at the forefront of supporting the government and host communities. Through Henkel’s Global Solidarity Program, “we supported local communities affected by the global COVID-19 pandemic by donating to front-liners in Lagos state and Ibadan, donating to Oyo state government to help state-run isolation and treatment centres and donating to Oyo state government to run a COVID-19 ‘preventative measures’ awareness campaign.

The company has also seen to the donation of educational items to schools, one being to the African Girls Empowerment School in Ibadan, Nigeria. The school is an educational facility designed to support children with special needs.
