Masari urges CBN to give farmers more access to funds

Published by

Katsina State Governor Aminu Bello Masari has called on the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), to do more for Farmers as what it has done is not enough.

Masari made this assertion at the occasion of the year 2020 Agricultural Credit Guarantee Scheme (ACGS), the best farmer award held in Katsina on Wednesday.

According to him, “If we look at other sectors of the economy, what goes to agriculture is not enough.”

He said access funds under agriculture should be made easier for the farmers to enable them to improve productivity.

The Governor who noted that the commercial banks are only interested in traders, oil and importers because of low returns in agriculture, said profits without development will not take the state where they should be.

“Over 7 million people are farmers in Katsina State, investments in agriculture and livestock development if properly harnessed can sustain the state to attain the desired objective,” he posited.

While appreciating the CBN for what it has done so far for farmers in the state, the Governor enjoined the apex bank to look inward to enable them to reap more of its programmes.

The state branch controller of CBN Alhaji Dahiru Usman in his remark earlier, appreciated the state government for the support extended to the Apex bank, adding that, this has no doubt indicated commitment for the development of agriculture in the state.
