Policemen from the Ondo State Command have arrested a middle-aged man, Soji Bakare, for allegedly raping a 10-year-old girl.
The suspect who was caught in the act inside the room of the victim’s mother at Aiyeyemi street, Isolo area of Akure was arrested after the young girl raised alarm.
It was gathered that Bakare who is a neighbour to the family of the girl visited their home when the mother of the girl was at her shop.
Bakare who was said to be living at Edo lodge area of Akure visited the home of the parents of the girl in Isolo area of the state capital and lured the girl inside the room and had carnal knowledge of her.
The suspect was said to have come to see his wife who owns a shop in the area before entering his friend’s house to rape their daughter.
The mother of the victim, Mrs Yinka Romoke Babalola, said the suspect was caught in the act and has been handed to men of the A’Division, Akure.
Babalola said the victim had been taken to the hospital by the police for medical treatment and examination.
She appealed to the police authorities, the Ondo State government and civil society organizations to help her and ensure that the suspect is prosecuted for allegedly raping her daughter.
The Ondo Police spokesman, DSP Funmi Odunlami, confirmed the development and said the suspect had been arrested.
She said the suspect would be charged to court immediately because of the gravity of the offence.
