Man arraigned over alleged fake bank transaction alerts in Ekiti.

The Police in Ado-Ekiti on Wednesday arraigned 27-year-old Adebayo Ayobami before an Ado-Ekiti Magistrate Court for allegedly defrauding people with fake bank transfer alerts.

The Prosecutor, Insp. Johnson Okunade told the court that the defendant committed the offence between February and March at Ikere-Ekiti.

He said that the defendant, during the period, fraudulently bought clothes and shoes worth N152,000 from one Wisdom Johnn, on the pretext of transferring the money to him.

Okunade said the complainant received a fake bank transfer alert from the defendant that showed the transaction was successful.

He added that the defendant also unlawfully bought plasma television set and generator valued at N120,000 from one Victor Chijoke in the same manner.

He said that the defendant, also fraudulently collected N110, 000 from another person, Moses Damilola and Wisdom John again and showed them the fake bank alerts on the pretext of transferring the sums to them.

The prosecutor said that the defendant, on May 24, at Ado-Ekiti also impersonated himself as an army officer with an intent to defraud people.

According to him, the offences contravened Section 419 of the Criminal Code, Cap. C 16, Laws of Ekiti State, 2012.

The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty.

The defence counsel, Mr Timileyin Omotosho, prayed the court to grant bail to his client on liberal terms, adding that he would not jump bail and would always make himself available in court.

The Chief Magistrate, Aderopo Adegboye, granted bail to the defendant in the sum of N200, 000 with two sureties in like sum.

He adjourned the case to Sept. 27 for further hearing.
