A United Kingdom-trained management consultant, Dr Adejoke Adekanmbi-Akinseye, has harped on the need for the electorate to rally round Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State for a second term in office.
Adekanmbi-Akinseye noted that a second term in office would offer Makinde an opportunity to complete all the legacy projects he has started in the state.
She stated this while declaring her intention to represent Ibadan North East/South East federal constituency at the House of Representatives in 2023.
Dr Adekanmbi-Akinseye who is the Founder of Aderoju Ayoade Adekanmbi Foundation also stressed the need for the government to implement the 35 per cent affirmative action for women participation in politics and governance.
On her aspiration, she noted that her 18 years work experience with the UK government and involvement in her Nigerian community for about 17 years have placed her on a better pedestal to represent the people in her constituency.
She said: “Governor Seyi Makinde deserves second term because of his laudable achievements and track of records in education, security, agriculture, infrastructural development among others.
“I am charging the electorate to rally support for the governor to achieve a second term in office.
It is good for the people to encourage something good. The governor has done well.
“Also, women empowerment is key. Let me tell you that women are very intelligent, but they have been sidetracked for a long time. Some of them have potential in so many areas of business and all that. It is time we empower them, and it is time they come out so that their voice can be heard. They also need to go out and get their PVC to vote in their choice candidate.
“The women need to be strengthened so that they can be vocal. There is the need to empower women, and by doing so we are empowering the nation.
“Youths should embrace agriculture, I will bring on board good investors in agriculture. I don’t believe our youths are lazy as they use to say, they need to be encouraged. I will initiate ideas that will change their minds positively, after which I will introduce them to sport, agriculture, entrepreneurial skills or trade. All of these will help disabuse their minds from yahoo activities.
“I will use all if these strategies to discourage the people from relying on stomach infrastructure practice which has made so many people lazy.Â
“I will use agriculture to change our narratives in the area. We will invest in training am research. This will help in a long way to address menace of poverty among the people. I will address and impact skills into the youth to enable them function well.”
