OYO State Governor, Senator Abiola Ajimobi has warned members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state to unite and move the party forward, warning that the state government will not ‘rig for anybody’ in the local government election coming up next month.
The state governor made this known on Friday at the 2017 empowerment programme of Senator Monsurat Sunmonu, at the IITA, Moniya, Ibadan, while admonishing members of the party to bury their hachet, and work for the unity of the party to ensure continuity of governance in the state.
Ajimobi said “I am using this opportunity to appeal to party members to forgive each other. We must forget the past and move forward, that is the only way we can achieve better results as a party.
“The local government election is coming up next month, some people are still doubtful if it will hold. The election will hold but if we are not united as a party, we will not win and we will not rig for anybody.
“Every candidate must be ready to work because we will conduct primaries before the election. Though, consensus is the best option in APC but we will all sit down to chose the best option in the interest of the party. Direct primary is cumbersome and prone to violence. We may go for indirect primary where we would pick 10 people per ward to select their candidates.”
On the unity of party members, Senator Ajimobi said such is crucial to the continuous reign of the party in the state. He urged all members to forget any misgivings against one another and work for the success of the party.
“Our Unity will ensure continuity in governance of the state. It is better that our party continues to rule in Oyo state. Let’s forgive all, I am appealing to you to let us work together, observe give and take in the party so that APC will continue to rule in Oyo state.
“This local government election will determine the fortune of this party. Today, by the grace of God I am the leader of APC in Oyo state and I won’t allow the party to disintegrate while i’m the governor.
“From the days of Chief Obafemi Awolowo, Chief Bola Ige and my uncle, Alhaji Lam Adesina and to my time as the governor, after eight years, the best thing for us as a party is for APC government to succeed us in 2019.
“Let me tell you SENACO is dead, LAMIST is dead. I am Senator Abiola Ajimobi, no senaco again, no Lamist again. My younger brother, Honourable Dapo Lam-Adesina who suppose to head the Lamists is with me, what again!. Whoever that is not with the united APC in Oyo State will fail.
“I am the leader, if you’re not in support of unity in Oyo APC and will not accept Ajimobi as the leader, go and form your own party,” the governor stated.
