Lawyer threatens to drag South West governors to court over land for ranching

Published by

A Human Right lawyer, Mr. Morakinyo Ogele, has threatened to drag to court any of the six governors of the Southwest geo-political zone that grants or donates any part of the land for the ranching of cows in their state, saying there is no land for such project.

Ogele who noted the increasing challenges that come with the movement of herdsmen into the region with the resultant destruction of farmlands and killing said those who want to engage in ranching should approach community or family and should not involve government to corner people’s land.

The lawyer who stated this in a statement commended the steps of Governor Rotimi Akeredolu of Ondo State for his efforts in tackling Fulani herdsmen menace in the state, urging other governors to follow his steps.

He said Akeredolu has been doing well by leading other governors in the zone to confronting the criminal activities of Fulani herdsmen in the Southwest.

He said, “apart from this, Akeredolu gave a seven-day ultimatum to those herdsmen that established themselves in the forest for criminal activities to give up possession of the forest where sundry of crimes were perpetrated ranging from killing, raping, kidnapping and other crimes.”

Also, Ogele commended Akeredolu for banning open grazing in his state, and for initiating a plan to establish a security outfit known as Amotekun which has come to fruition.

“People of the South West Must appreciate the recent activities of Akeredolu for his effort in bringing down the criminal activities of these satanic Fulani herdsmen.

He, however, chided some of the governors in the zone who were hobnobbing with the Northern zone, neglecting the welfare and security of their people for political gain.
