Published by

All is set by the Lagos State government to commence rehabilitation works on government-owned primary and secondary schools across the state.

But it is beginning with 60 schools, 10 in each of the six education districts, for the pilot scheme which will start once all due processes, including procurements, have been concluded.

This was disclosed by the Commissioner for Education, Mrs Folasade Adefisayo, at an interactive session with members of staff of the ministry at the Alausa secretariat.

Mrs Adefisayo said the development is in fulfillment of the current administration’s promise to invest heavily in the education sector and make learning and teaching in public schools friendlier.

She explained further in a statement made available to newsmen by the assistant director of the public affairs unit of the ministry, Mr Kayode Sutton, that the administration had resolved to introduce measures aimed at addressing three broad critical issues affecting education sector in the state.

These issues include upgrading of teaching profession, the curriculum and school infrastructure.

“Lagos State wants to remain a model for other states, not only in education, but also in other sectors of the economy, including production of global manpower needs,” she stressed.

While reassuring the people of the state on leveraging on technology platforms to teach, assess, test and reinforce learning in the state, the commissioner said the rehabilitation efforts would be carried out in conjunction with the private sector and development partners. She also disclosed plans by the state government to recruit more competent teachers to augment the work of those on the ground at both primary and secondary schools.
