LAGOS State chapter of All Progressives Congress (APC) on Monday mourned the death of His Royal Majesty, Oba Mufutau, Olatunji Hamzat, father of the deputy governor-elect in the state, Dr Kadiri Obafemi Hamzat, who passed on Sunday, May 12, 2019 in Lagos after a brief illness at age 87, describing the deceased as great and solid man, who lived an eventful, honest and fruitful life worthy of emulation.
Oba Hamzat, who retired from the banking sector in the 70s and joined the sage, Chief Obafemi Awolowo and Alhaji Lateef Jakande, former governor of Lagos State in the defunct Unity Party of Nigeria (UPN), ruled over Afowowa Sogade in Ewekoro Local Area of Ogun State.
He was equally a former commissioner in Lagos and also a member of Governor’s Advisory Committee (GAC) in the All Progressives Congress (APC)-led state before his demise.

The party gave this reaction in a statement made available to newsmen by its spokesperson, Mr Joe Igbokwe, even as it noted that the late monarch would be remembered for his discipline, party loyalty, contributions and commitment to the glory of Lagos, South- West zone and Nigeria in general.
According to APC, Oba Hamzat “will be remembered for standing with the leaders of Lagos through thick and thin, good and troubled times, rough roads and smooth roads.”
The party, while giving gratitude to God for a life well spent by the late monarch, said the only regret was that Oba Hamzat did not live to witness the swearing-in of his son, Dr Obafemi Hamzat as deputy governor of Lagos State on May 29 2019, 17 days away from now.
It said such would have been a moment of glory and fulfilment for him, but quickly noted that God knows the best.
“It would have been a moment of glory and fulfilment for him but God knows the best,” APC said.
