Kwara South women, youths declare support for Saraki 2023 presidency

Community groups and stakeholders in Kwara State have declared their support for the presidential aspiration of the former Senate President, Dr Bukola Saraki.

The various groups made the declaration at the annual Ojoku day celebration at the palace of the Olojoku of Ojoku in the Oyun local government area of the state, Oba Abdulrazaq Adegboyega Afolabi Iyiola Seni lll, at the weekend.

The colourful event was attended by several dignitaries within and outside Kwara state including  Senator Rafiu Ibrahim who represented Kwara South senatorial district at the 8th Senate.

Speaking at the occasion on behalf of the seven local government Chairmen of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Kwara South, the Chairman of the PDP, Ifelodun LGA, Mr Wale Olawomo, said the party and people of Kwara South have declared unalloyed support for Saraki 2023 presidency.

Olawomo said there was absolutely no reason why any Nigerian must think twice before declaring support for the #RescueNigeria team of Dr Saraki in 2023, considering his wealth of experience and antecedents in public offices.

Also speaking, the PDP Kwara South Senatorial Women Leader, Chief Mrs Margaret Abegunde, on behalf of PDP women in all the seven PDP LGAs in Kwara South and other women groups, said that the women as they had always done, would give their all to the aspiration of the former Senate President.

She reiterated the love of the PDP leader for the women, noting that the former Kwara State Governor had always given priority to women in governance and will do more if in any position of power.

Also speaking, one of the youth leaders in Kwara South, Hon. Idris Kamil, on behalf of the youth groups in Oyun LGA, emphasized the reasons why the youths cannot but support Saraki for President in 2023.

“The support we enjoy from him cannot be compared to anyone else. The project at the moment is anchored more on the youths. So, if Saraki gets the ticket, it is to our advantage. So, we must support him,” he said.

The leader of the Hausa community, Seriki Hausawa in Oyun Local Government Area, Mallam Adamu Abubakar, who spoke on behalf of Hausa, Suru and other tribes, expressed surprise that Saraki remains a leader and closer to the people even after leaving office.

He described his characteristics as that of a true servant leader, saying the Hausa community and others in Kwara South are behind him.

Senator Rafiu thanked the people for their love and support for his political leader. He also appreciated them for their support and prayers for Saraki’s 2023 presidential aspiration.

He enumerated various achievements of Saraki in Oyun as Governor and Senate President.

Rafiu noted that all that he was able to achieve to the people’s delight, would not have been possible without the support of Saraki.

He acknowledged that Kwara and indeed Nigeria will experience massive transformation under Saraki if elected as president of the country in 2023.

The Ojoku-born financial expert-turned politician described Saraki as not just competent but a detribalized Nigerian who will unite the country and improve the state of the economy, address security challenges and create not only job opportunities but an enabling environment for businesses to thrive.

The youths in Oyun LGA, had in their resolution, also unanimously called on Senator Rafiu Adebayo Ibrahim to as a matter of necessity make himself available to run for the Kwara South Senatorial seat in 2023.

They lamented that the level of development within their senatorial district had remained the same since he left office in 2019. “The vacuum your absence created is too wide and has left the present occupier in confusion,” the youths chorused.

As part of activities lined up for the 2021 Ojoku Day celebration, Senator Rafiu joined the Muslim faithful at Ojoku Central Mosque to perform Friday’s Jumat service.
