Kwara govt, NGOs urge residents to use mosquito net

The Kwara State government, in partnership with the Society for Family Health (SFH) and other malaria partners, has admonished residents in the state to assist the government in managing and reducing the burden of malaria by accepting and using the free insecticide-treated nets (ITN) being distributed across 16 local government areas of the state.

Speaking in Ilorin, the Kwara state capital, on the distribution of the ITN, the Director Technical and Programme SFH, Dr. John Ocholi, advised residents to manage their environment effectively to reduce malaria disease.

Dr. Ocholi, who said that environmental management is a key factor in managing malaria in the state and the country at large, added that “removing stagnant water in our surroundings can help reduce the breeding of mosquitoes in our environment.”

He also said that the government and the malaria partners took the initiative to distribute ITN and SPAQ for children between the ages of zero to five years in all the 193 wards in the state as another factor to prevent mosquito bites.

Dr. Ocholi urged residents in Kwara state not to sell the ITN or buy it from anyone, saying that they should report anyone found selling the treated net to officials of the Ministry of Health or the law enforcement agents.
