Kwara district head regains freedom after seven days with abductors

District head of Erubu in the Ilorin emirate and a retired Permanent Secretary in Kwara state, Dr. Zubair Oba Erubu, has regained freedom from his abductors after seven days.

It is recalled that Eburu, a veteran medical doctor, was abducted last Thursday at his Ago-Oja residence, Asa local government area of the state where he had gone to retire after the day’s work at his private hospital located in Ilorin.

It was learnt then that the abductors had laid an ambush for him while returning home from his hospital where he was earlier in the day to attend to a patient.

The Nigerian Tribune gathered that Erubu was released in the wee hours of Thursday to some members of his family at an undisclosed location.

Though it could not be officially confirmed the amount of money paid, a source in Erubu’s family said that the condition for ransom was met before the retired permanent secretary secured his freedom.

It was also gathered that the abductors had demanded N60million ransom as a precondition to release the victim, just as it was said that he had been taken to a medical facility for treatment and stabilization after his release.

The police public relations officer (PPRO), Okasanmi Ajayi, who confirmed the development said that, “the victim of the recent kidnap incident that took place on the 9/12/2021 at Afon area of Ilorin, Dr. Folorunso Zubair Erubu, has been released this morning, after days of thorough search and rescue operation directed by the commissioner of police, CP Tuesday Assayomo.

“The release was made possible with the cooperation of the victim’s family members, the Community and other security stakeholders, vigilante and hunters.”
