Kwara APC crisis: Federal lawmakers back governor

All the nine lawmakers representing Kwara State at the National Assembly, except one, have pledged their support for Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq in the current crisis rocking the state chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Speaking with journalists in Ilorin on Wednesday, the lawmaker representing Ifelodun, Offa, Oyun federal constituency, Hon. Tijani Ismail, who said that the crisis would not have a negative effect on the second term bid of the governor, added that the masses would determine the 2023 election and not a few individuals.

“Come 2023, it is about masses and not political merchants that are going around blackmailing our performing governor. Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq is turning around the state in terms of infrastructure.

“We are glad to have Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq as governor and our party leader, and we challenge political masses to judge us based on their evaluation when it’s time for that.”

The lawmaker, who frowned at a statement credited to some politicians calling Governor Abdulrazaq  “one chance governor,” said that the comments were deliberately targeted at destroying the party.

“The truth is that there were crises before the party primary election and after the emergence of party candidates.

“Imagine, a minister supporting illegality within the party, we have a party chairman, in the person of Abdullahi Samari, fully recognized by Mai Mala Buni-led National Caretaker Committee and a minister is here supporting Bashir Bolarinwa to destabilize the party.”

Responding to the allegation of financial support to party candidates in the 2019 election as claimed by the minister, Tijani said that, “I, as a person did not receive one naira from anyone. It was Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq that gave us support.”

He, however, acknowledged that he was given a vehicle in line with the party arrangement.

Talking about his achievements, Hon. Tijjai said that “as a member of the Federal House of Representatives, representing Irepodun, Offa and Oyun constituency with 41 political wards, I have covered 39 wards in terms of projects and empowerment and more are still coming,” he said.
