Bishop of Sokoto Catholic Diocese, Bishop Matthew Kukah, on Sunday, paid a visit to the Lagos residence of the late spokesperson of the pan- Yoruba socio-political group, Afenifere, Mr Yinka Odumakin, to condole with the deceased’s wife, Dr Joe and family members over the passing of the activist.
Odumakin died on April 3, 2021, at the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH) and was buried on April 24, in his hometown, Moro in Ife North Local Government Area of Osun State.
The cleric, while paying tributes to the late Odumakin, said he would be remembered not with tears but with joy and hope, recalling that the late activist covered several miles within a short time that he joined the race for a democratic Nigeria.
Kukah, in his condolence speech at the Odumakin’s family in Lagos, however, said the journey continues, noting that the road is better and clearer based on the footprints left behind by the late activist and former Afenifere spokesperson “as a light to a new generation.”
“We will remember you not with tears but with joy and hope. In a short time that you joined the race for a democratic Nigeria, you logged on so many miles.
“The journey goes on – the road is better and clearer because of the footprints you left behind as a light to a new generation,” the cleric said.
The Bishop of Sokoto Catholic Diocese asserted that the future is in Lord’s hands, while it was the duty of the citizens to build, and, therefore, prayed God to receive the soul of Odumakin mercifully and give him rest.
Kukah also prayed for the deceased’s wife, Dr Joe Okei- Odumakin, his children and all those who loved the family dearly, urging God to grant peace to all.
