KDU gets NUC’s approval to run Law, 6 other new programmes

Published by

As part of its effort to expand its academic programmes, KolaDaisi University, Ibadan (KDU-I) has got approval from the National Universities Commission to run seven new courses.

The newly approved courses are LLB, Law; B.Sc Cyber Security, B.Sc Information Technology, B.Sc Software Engineering, B.Sc Information and Media Science, B.Sc International Relations, and B.Sc Marketing.

Professor Luke Kolade Ayorinde made the disclosure while addressing newsmen at a press conference organised by the institution to formally unveil the newly approved courses.

He noted that the university at inception started with a total of 17 approved courses across two faculties: Faculty of Applied Sciences and Faculty of Arts, Management and Social Sciences. With the new approval, he noted that the university now runs 24 courses, with an additional faculty added to it: the Faculty of Law.

“We have had to upgrade some of the things we already had on the ground, such as our laboratories, materials and human resources to be among the best.

“Also as a responsive university, we observed the needs in the global trends which informed our requesting the NUC to come to our university for what we call resource verification. It is an inspection on assessment of the programmes we have and the ones we intend to ‘mount’ in the new session.

“If the resources are not there in terms of human and material resources, the NUC would not grant the approval of mounting such programmes. We thank God that the seven programmes that we submitted to the NUC which they came to assess sometime in November last year were all approved.

“This means that we now have 24 approved programmes in KolaDaisi University; 12 in Applied Sciences, 11 in the Faculty of Arts, Management and Social Sciences and Law under the Faculty of Law. We have introduced three new programmes into the existing faculties that we feel are modern and highly sought after in the world,” Professor Ayorinde.

Also speaking at the event, the university bursar, Mr Yinka Babatunde said the approval of more programmes for KDU-I is in line with the vision and mission of the institution to become a world class university and to offer relevant education and skills to students who would be coming in.

“We are happy about the new programmes because they will help us to serve the community better and make our admission more attractive and competitive,” he said.
