KANO State Police Command has arrested two suspected kidnappers, 20-year-old Abdullahi Mukhtar and 22-year-old Ashiru Yakubu of Jain Quarters, Kumbotso Local Government Area, Kano, for allegedly kidnapping a three and half years old Mohammed Aminu.
They were said to have kept the victim in an uncompleted building while demanding a ransom of N10 million.
Speaking on behalf of the State Commissioner of Police, Mr Sama’ila Shu’aibu Dikko, the Police Public Relation Officer, DSP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, disclosed that police, while working on a tip-off, raided an uncompleted building located at Ja’in Quarters, Kano where the victim was held hostage.
He further disclosed that the victim was rescued unhurt during the raid.
He said: “On August 24, 2021, a complaint was lodged by a resident of Ja’in Quarters, Kumbotso LGA, Kano State, that his son, Mohammed Aminu, 3½ years old, was kidnapped and a ransom of N10 million was demanded.”
According to him, “upon receipt of the complaint, the Commissioner of Police, Kano State Command, CP Sama’ila Shu’aibu Dikko, raised and instructed a team of detectives led by SP Shehu Dahiru, to rescue the victim and arrest the culprits.
“The team swiftly swung into action, and following credible intelligence, raided an uncompleted building located at Ja’in Quarters Kano where the victim was held hostage and arrested one Abdullahi Mukhtar and Ashiru Yakubu, all of Shago Tara Street, Ja’in Quarters, Kano.
“The victim was rescued unhurt and rushed to Murtala Mohammed Specialist Hospital Kano, where he was treated and discharged.
“On preliminary investigation, one of the suspects; Abdullahi Mukhtar confessed that the victim is his relative and he conspired with his friend Ashiru Yakubu, kidnapped the victim, held him hostage and demanded N10 million, but later settled at N600,000.00.
“The two suspects confessed to the crime and have been charged to court.”
