Kano NYSC loses two corps members, five to repeat service year

Published by

The Kano State coordinator, National Youths Service Corps (NYSC), Hajiya Aisha Tata Mohammed said the NYSC in Kano lost two corps members to untimely death while five members were to repeat service year.

Mohammed noted that most corps members said they were at the initial stage not happy to serve in Kano but later realised that the state was accommodating while transportation and food were cheap in the state.

This was just as a total number of 2,155 participated in the Passing-out Parade (POP) of Batch “A” 2020 held on Thursday. This includes 1,296 males and 869 females.

Mohammed, who disclosed this to pressmen on Thursday during the POP held at the Federal Government Secretariat, Kano, however, added that the two corps members that lost their lives died at their parent homes.

According to the coordinator, “the two corps members relocated from where they were posted to. After they got sick but eventually died at their homes where they were receiving treatment.”

She disclosed that 15 corps members will go on an extension of service. Five of them will be remobilised which means that they will repeat their service year.

Mohammed further disclosed that many corps members gave birth during their service year, saying “We thank Almighty Allah for helping them to deliver safely.”

She, however, urged the outgoing corps members not to wait until they secure white-collar jobs, which according to her were not in existence.

She said they should make use of skill acquisition they got while in camp to establish themselves and not waste their time.

Mohammed urged them to “shun any act capable of denting their image and their parents’ because there is no short course to success. Have faith in God, be prayerful and focus on whatever positive endeavour you are doing.”

According to some of the corps members interviewed, they were not happy at the initial moment they were posted to serve in the state. But after some time they discovered Kano was good they did not want to go back to their states in the Southern part of the country.
