Kano State government has asked the National Drugs Laws Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) to conduct drug tests for all candidates of the All Progressive Congress (APC) for both chairmanship and councillorship elections in the state.
Tribune Online reports that the candidates for the elections will emerge from the ongoing primaries at the local government and ward levels in the state.
This was contained in a letter issued by the Office of the Secretary to the State Government, Alhaji Usman Alhaji and signed by the Permanent Secretary, Research, Evaluation and Political Affairs, Hajiya Bilkisu Shehu Mai Mota.
The statement which was made available to the journalists by the Press Secretary, Uba Abdullahi said the test was part of efforts to ensure judicious management, prudence and accountability for democratic values at the grassroots level.
The statement further stressed that all the successful candidates would report to the agency for the test in due course.
Alhaji Usman Alhaji similarly noted that the present administration of Dr Abdullahi Umar Ganduje is fully committed towards ensuring the sustainability of democratic values.
He then urged the people in the state to rally round the present administration for societal transformation in all spheres of human endeavour.
