Kaduna: Police nab suspected gunrunner with 202 rounds of ammunition in Zaria LG

The Kaduna State Police Command has arrested a suspected gunrunner in possession of 202 (two hundred and two) rounds of ammunition in the Zaria local government area of the state.

This was contained in a statement issued by the police image maker, ASP Mansir Hassan, and made available to newsmen in Kaduna on Tuesday.

The statement disclosed that “the police recorded yet another feat in the fight against crime and criminality in the state with the arrest of a suspected gunrunner and the recovery of ammunition.

According to the statement, “the incident occurred on January 17, 2024, at 2030 hours or thereabout, when the police officers from Divisional Police Headquarters Tudun Wada, Zaria, on Tactical Operation Duty (TOD) accosted a certain Musa Yusuf of Zurmi LGA Zamfara State who was on a commercial motorcycle and in possession of a suspicious handbag.

The said suspect alighted the motorcycle, abandoned his bag, and attempted to escape.

However, he was chased and apprehended, and when his handbag was searched, two hundred and two rounds of 7.62 x 39mm live ammunition were retrieved.

Early inquisition revealed that Musa Yusuf was on an errand for a bandit alias Emir in Zurmi Forest. He was to receive the ammunition at Bakin Kogi in Kauru LGA of Kaduna State and convey it to the said bandit.

He has since accomplished the first stage of the mission by collecting the ammunition but was intercepted before being delivered by the ever-vigilant police officers attached to the Tudun Wada Zaria Division.

The investigation is still ongoing, and concerted efforts have been made to arrest his accomplices. After which, the case will be charged to court.

“The Commissioner of Police Kaduna State Command, CP A.D. Ali, psc, has applauded the vigilant alertness of the police officers and calls for more visibility in policing.

He charged operators to dominate their area of responsibility and make their presence felt. This, he concluded, will deter criminals from carrying out their nefarious acts in the state.
