Kaduna insecurity: 21 cows poisoned in Southern Kaduna ― Miyetti

The Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association, Kaduna chapter has said 21 cows reportedly died after taking poison.

Miyetti disclosed the incident that occurred last week Friday at Gidan Waya, Jema’a local government area of Kaduna State.

The spokesman for the association, Ibrahim Bayero disclosed this in an interview on Wednesday.

He said the poisoned cows belonged to Pate Gambo (15 cows), Iliyas Gambo (five cows) and Inusa Gambo (one cow).

However, in a reconciling meeting summoned the Executive Chairman, Jema’a Local Government, Comrade Yunana Markus Barde called for a truce between the two parties.

According to him, the meeting was organised to further promote peace in the domain between the farmers and herders in Gidan Waya, Godogodo Chiefdom and their Fulani neighbours.

Speaking during the meeting, the chairman also expressed dismay over the incident, which he described as a deliberate handiwork of the enemies of peace to frustrate the peace process and cause a crisis in the area.

Barde sympathised with the owners of the affected cows and assured them that he would report the incident and present their request to the state government for further action.

He again cautioned the people against any act capable of truncating the peaceful coexistence currently prevailing in the area and warned that anyone caught would suffer the full wrath of the law.

Also speaking, the traditional ruler of Godogodo, Dr Habila Saidu commended the Fulani in Gidan Waya, especially owners of the affected cows for their understanding and recourse to the law which he said was exemplary.

On his part, Mallam Gambo Ahmadu who spoke on behalf of the owners of the affected cows said they were comforted by the outpouring of sympathy and concern, especially by the traditional rulers and the local government chairman over the incident and assured that as believers they have accepted the loss as an act of God.

He however pleaded for government assistance in order to help cushion the effect of the loss.

Also speaking, Ardo Bayero Musa said the Fulani and people of Gidan Waya have been coexisting peacefully with one another right from time and promised their commitment to the peacebuilding process despite the incident.
