Justice Odili: Elder Statesman wants investigation, prosecution of culprits

As outrage continues to grow against the invasion of the resident of Justice Mary Odili by yet to be identified agents of the state, elder Statesman Chief Emma Anyanwu has demanded thorough investigation and prosecution of those involved or participated in the show of shame.

He called on the Federal Government to urgently unravel those behind the recent invasion of the Abuja residence of Hon Justice Mary Odili, a Supreme Court judge.

In a media chat with journalists in Port Harcourt, Anyanwu, also a chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party PDP wondered what was the motive of those trying to embarrass and harass one of the “finest justices in the Supreme Court.”

He, therefore, called for a thorough investigation and prosecution of those who might have been involved or participated in the show of shame that ridiculed Nigeria before the international community.

Anyanwu stated; “No stone should be left unturned in fishing out those responsible for this dastardly act. It is not just about Justice Odili or the judiciary, it is about the image and respect Nigeria ought to have among the comity of nations”.

He stated that Justice Mary Odili might have been targeted because of her disposition to sound discharge of her duties, no matter whose ox is gored, in ensuring a better society.

He went on; “There seems to be a cabal that is desperate to unsuccessfully tarnish her reputation as a woman of substance, conviction, and thoroughness in the discharge of her responsibilities.

“Their desperation is to stop Justice Odili from occupying the highest judicial office but they will fail because the woman has had a distinguished career in the judiciary.”

Prince Anyanwu noted that Justice Mary Odili rose in her chosen career from being a Magistrate to becoming a Supreme Court Judge without any blemish or query and as such, deserves every measure of respect.

He said Justice Mary Odili as a woman of integrity, even recused herself from the case of former PDP chairman, Ali Modu Sherriff when it came before the Supreme Court and has always been upright in the discharge of her judicial responsibilities.
