The Badaru Abubakar-led government of Jigawa State has spent N175.13 billion in the execution of 96 different roads across the state since 2015.
This was disclosed by the state Commissioner for Works and Transport, Engineer Aminu Usman, while fielding questions from newsmen during a Media Engagement Forum organized by Correspondent Chapel of Nigerian Union of Journalist (NUJ) of the state held at Manpower Development Institute Dutse.
Usman said, “despite the recession and economic challenges experienced in the country, the present administration under the able leadership of Governor Muhammadu Badaru Abubakar has succeeded in constructing and renovating over 96 roads with a total distance of over 1,642.43 km at the coast of over N175.13 billion from 2015 to date.”
Engineer Usman explained that the regional, feeder and township roads include new projects and those inherited from the past administration.
“42 roads projects out of 96 are inherited from the previous administration while the 54 are initiated and completed in the period under review.
“Out of the said amount of money, Governor Badaru spent over N88.4 billion in completing all the inherited road projects from past administration with a total length of 716.5 kilometres,” Eng. Usman explained.
The commissioner revealed that the inherited projects include 15 regional roads, seven feeder roads and 20 township roads that were at various stages.
He noted that out of N88.4 billion negotiated, the past administration paid only N32.5 billion to contractors handling the projects.
According to him, when “Governor Badaru assumed office in 2015, he re-negotiated the contract with the firms handling the works who gave a discount of N7.58 billion from the initial contract amount.
“Today, we are proud to tell the world that we have completed all these inherited projects and we owe contractors no single kobo.
“The Governor Badaru-led administration is also determined to complete all the ongoing road projects before the end of his tenure to ensure delivery of development of democracy to the Jigawa State people.
“These projects were executed in accordance to All Progressives Congress (APC) philosophy of facilitating the movement of goods and services for an egalitarian development in the society.”
In his remarks, the Chairman, Jigawa State Correspondent Chapel, Comrade Muh’d Zangina Kura, described the achievement made by the ministry as a clear testimony of the advantages of the democratic system and good leadership in the society.
