Jerry Aghedo: A Journey from Benin City to Tech Entrepreneurship

Jerry Aghedo, founder of Rency Technologies Company LTD (Coinrency), stands as the epitome of resilience and innovation. Having carved a path for himself as a software developer and crypto enthusiast, Jerry; a young boy from Benin City, is a testament to his curiosity, fuel for learning and an unwavering passion for technology.

Born and raised in Edo State, Nigeria, Jerry’s affinity for technology blossomed at a young age. His journey into the world of computers began with a gift from his uncle—a white Sony computer that became his constant companion until it was tragically stolen. Undeterred by setbacks, Jerry’s resolve to learn and create remained unwavering.

“My childhood was marked by a deep fascination with computers and a desire to build something meaningful,” reflects Jerry. “Despite the challenges I faced, including the theft of my first computer, I remained determined to pursue my passion for technology.”

Fuelled by inspiration from “The Social Network,” a film depicting the rise of Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg, Jerry embarked on a journey of self-discovery and learning. Armed with determination and a newfound sense of purpose, he delved into the world of coding, teaching himself the intricacies of software development and cloud computing.

“I realized that I had the power to create something that could impact people’s lives,” says Jerry. “With a MacBook and a burning desire to learn, I immersed myself in coding, determined to turn my childhood dreams into reality.”

Jerry’s dedication to his craft led him to enrol in the Africa Institute of Media Studies, where he honed his skills as a software developer and solidified his expertise in cloud computing. Armed with newfound knowledge and a passion for innovation, Jerry founded Coinrency in 2020, amidst the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic.

“Coinrency was born out of a desire to democratize access to cryptocurrency trading and empower individuals to navigate the digital economy,” explains Jerry. “Since its inception, Coinrency has grown to serve over 5000 users, facilitating over 15 billion naira in gross transactions.”

Driven by a vision to make crypto trading seamless and accessible, Jerry is spearheading the development of Coinrency mobile apps and Coinrency Academy—an e-learning platform designed to equip individuals with high-income crypto skills.

“As we embark on the official launch of Coinrency’s mobile app and Coinrency Academy, my goal is to empower 1000 students before the end of 2024,” shares Jerry. “Through simplicity, resilience, and a commitment to excellence, we are revolutionizing the landscape of Nigerian tech entrepreneurship, one innovation at a time.”

From humble beginnings in Benin City to the forefront of Nigeria’s tech industry, Jerry’s journey exemplifies the transformative power of passion, perseverance, and unwavering determination. As he continues to chart new horizons and inspire the next generation of tech enthusiasts, Jerry remains a testament to the boundless possibilities that await those who dare to dream.
