2019: It’s our turn, Itsekiri leaders tell Senator representing Delta South

Having spent about 16 years in the Red Chamber of the National Assembly, Senator James Manager, representing the Delta South Senatorial district, has been enjoined to honourably take a bow and give room for a fresh blood.

The admonition came from the Itsekiri Leaders of Thought (ILOT), the apex Itsekiri socio-cultural and political group, weekend, in Warri, when a former Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. J.F.K. Omatsone paid the body a visit.

Omatsone, an Itsekiri, had visited the Itsekiri leaders to intimate them of his intention to contest the Delta South Senatorial seat, under the platform of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) come 2019 and also seek their blessings and support to realize his ambition.

ILoT, however, averred that since Senator Manager, an Ijaw, had spent almost four terms in the saddle, he should honourable take a bow for the agreed rotational turn of an Itsekiri.

The group stated that it was the turn of the Itsekiri ethnic nationality to produce the candidate to represent the Ijaw, Itsekiri and Isoko ethnic nationalities which make up the Delta South Senatorial district at the Red Chamber in Abuja.

Chairman and secretary of ILOT, Mr Edward Ekpoko and Sir, Amorighoye Mene, stated that Senator Manager has overstayed at the Senate and it was time for him to go.

The duo averred that it was the turn of the Itsekiri nation to produce the Senator for the district and would leave no stone unturned in picking the best candidate among those who’ll come to seek support and prayers from the body.

Meanwhile, top among other eminent sons and daughters of Itsekiri eyeing the senatorial seat is the immediate past governor of Delta State, Dr Emmanuel Uduaghan, who had earlier sacrificed the position to Senator Manager in 2015 to avert a breach of the peace his government had painstakingly engendered.
