Invasion of Magu’s farm: IGP’s special squad nabs suspects

THE Police have arrested three members a suspected robbery gang who invaded the farm House of the Acting Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, Mr Ibrahim Magu, at Barkin Uza Karshi area of Abuja last December.

‎During the deadly operations reportedly led by three Air force personnel on 12th of December last year, the robbery gang killed one Police Sergeant on guard duty and made away two AK47 Rifles belonging to the Police Personnel on duty.

Parading the three suspects before the news men in Abuja yesterday, the Deputy Force Public Relations. Officer, DFPRO, SP. Aremu Adeniran said that they were arrested by the Inspector General of Police Intelligence Response Team (IGP-IRT) directed by the High Police command to carry out a discreet investigation into the matter, arrest and bring the perpetrators to justice.

According to him, the are Inalegwu Omikpa, the gang leader, Francis Ochife, Vicent Michael said to be a dismissed ‎Nigeria Air Force, NAF personnel while two other gang members, NAF personnel were being held by NAF for disciplinary action after which they would be released to the Police for investigation.

Item recovered from the suspects, he said, include two Ak47 Rifles, two mobile phones. , two magazines and 60 rounds of AK47 Ammunitions.

SUPOL Aremu stated that the suspects were arrested by the Special squad at different locations and had all confessed the criminal roles they played in the commission of the crime.

A member of the gang, Francis Ochikpe who fielded questions from newsmen said that he and other gang members invaded the farm house based on information available to them that there were some hidden recovered funds by the EFCC stock in two sucks away pits at the farmhouse.

He confirmed that he was the one that discovered the location of the farm house and informed the gang leader before the operation that led to their arrests by the Police.

The suspect however that to their dismay, no money in the two suck-away ‎ pits which he personally dug by himself as he was made to believe.

The gang leader, Inalegwu, speaking in the same vein said that the NAF personnel were recruited to secure the Farm House for the members’ easy invasion And that they took off immediately securing the premises for them.

Aremu promised that the remaining two suspects still with the NAF would be handed over to the Police.
