Minister of State for Education, Mr Chukwuemeka Nwajiuba
The Federal Government has clarified that Private Schools that run International curriculum are free to conduct their third term examinations online on the conclusion of their syllabus.
Minister of State for Education, Hon Chukwuemeka Nwajiuba, who made this clarification while fielding questions from journalists at a news conference in Abuja, said the schools were established with foreigners as their major target.
Nwajiuba reiterated that until the interstate lockdown is lifted and safety of school children is guaranteed, the government would not reopen the schools in a hurry.
He said: “Schools that operate or run a foreign programme in Nigeria can go ahead with their own third term exams.”
The Minister explained that these were private schools licensed to run foreign curriculum essentially for the children of expatriates and diplomats.
He said the approved curricula are targeted at satisfying the ability of such children to be able to re-join the school system of their home countries at the time of need.
“If such schools are able to host online classes for the curriculum they operate and they choose to use the period to cover their syllabus, it is permitted,” the Minister said.
“We have not said people should stop learning,” he added
It will be recalled that as part of the government’s measures to prevent further transmission of COVID-19, schools remain closed until the Federal Government declares that it is safe for schools to reopen.
