Insecurity: Plateau APC elder council tasks Gov Lalong to revisit, identify youths trained abroad on intelligent gathering

Published by

Plateau State All Progressive Congress (APC) elders council has tasked the state government to revisit and identify the youths of the state that were trained abroad in security and intelligence gathering by the last administration and merged them with the 3000 vigilantes trained by the present administration as a means of strengthening security network in the state.

Addressing newsmen on Friday, the Deputy Chairman of the council, Mr Pam Dung Gyang said this will further boost and complement the efforts of the conventional security agencies in information gathering and tracking down bad elements amongst the residents of Plateau State.

“We are aware that the executive governor of Plateau State recently procured security vehicles and motorcycles to boost the efforts of security personnel in the state as well as the training of 3,000 Vigilantés to give a helping hand to conventional Police for the protection of lives and properties in the state. This is also commendable, and be actualized.”

The Deputy Chairman commended the efforts of the governor in exploring the option of consultative dialogue and reconciliatory means in resolving the crisis between the Fulani and Irigwe that brought them also to signing a peace treaty.

He said the council condemned the uncultured manner with which the corpses of the dead victims of the recent crisis in the state were mishandled adding that it was not in the character of the people of Plateau State to desecrate the body of the dead.

According to him, the singular behaviour has further traumatized and caused pain to the families of the deceased and citizens of the state.

Engr. Gyang further called on citizens of the state including politicians to refrain from influencing and encouraging citizens to resort to self-help adding if encouraged it will allow for the proliferation of arms with attendant negative consequences in the near future.

He appealed to the federal government to redeem its pledge of N10 billion for the rebuilding and resettlement of IDPs.

“We Appeal to the Federal Government to as matter of urgency redeem the pledge of Ten Billion Naira (N10,000,000,000) made to Plateau State for the rebuilding and resettlement of the IDPs as well as reconciliation processes. In the same circumstance appeal to the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and the National Emergency Management Agency to hasten the process of presentation of relief materials to alleviate and ease the suffering of the affected victims and communities,” he said.
