INEC urges speedy passage of Electoral Offences Commission Bill

The Chairman, Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Professor Yakubu Mahmood has urged the National Assembly for speedy passage of the Bill for the Establishment of the National Electoral Offences Commission by the National Assembly.

He added that the bill passed first reading on Thursday 27th February 2020.

Yakubu stated this during the at the Independent National Electoral Commission’s Retreat with The National Assembly Committees on INEC and Electoral Matters, held yesterday in Lagos.

“We look forward to the expeditious passage of the Bill for an Act for the Establishment of the National Electoral Offences Commission sponsored by Senator Abubakar Kyari and co-sponsored by Senator Ovie Omo-Agege which passed the second reading today Wednesday 4th March 2020.

“It is also on record that the Electoral Offences Commission (Establishment) Bill 2020 sponsored in the House of Representatives by Hon. John Dyegh passed first reading on Thursday 27th February,2020” He said.
