The Socio-cultural organisation, Pan Niger Delta Forum (PANDEF) and a lead Civil Society Organisation, Centre for Civil Society (CCS) on Monday to prove to Nigerians and the global community that it is not a ‘rubber stamp’ as it takes a decision on the President Muhammadu Buhari’s nominee, Lauretta Onochie as Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) Commissioner.
Speaking exclusively with Tribune Online, PANDEF National Publicity Secretary, Hon. Ken Robinson said: “There is nothing much to say on Lauretta Onochie’s nomination as INEC Commissioner.
“The INEC Act states that the Chairman and members of the Commission shall be – (a) persons of unquestionable integrity.
“Nigerians know who Lauretta Onochie is, and the roles she played, in the recent past, in the interest of President Muhammadu Buhari and his administration.
“Howbeit, since the President has maintained her nomination for the INEC job, the burden is now on the leadership of the Senate of theFederal Republic of Nigeria to, with a clear conscience, demonstrate to Nigerians and the Global Community that it is patriotic and impervious to primordial impressions, and not a ‘rubber stamp’ as some have labelled it,” Hon Robinson urged.
