Published by

The tactical team of the Imo State Police Command acting on a tip-off has intercepted a syndicate of pipeline vandals along Owerri Port Harcourt Road Owerri of Imo State.

Commissioner of Police Imo State, CP Abutu Yaro, in a statement issued in Owerri by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, CSP Michael Abatham, said that the vandals were using a white coloured Ford Bus with registration number Lagos, SMK 819 GY, fully loaded with vandalised petroleum products suspected to be adulterated diesel tied in cellophane bags.

According to the CP, the driver of the vehicle, on sighting the police, quickly jumped out of the bus and ran into the bush, abandoning the bus.

Yaro said that he was immediately chased and all efforts made to arrest the escaping suspect proved abortive.

He said that the truck was recovered to the station.

The Police boss said that the tactical teams did not relent in their diligent intelligence gathering through which it was revealed that, the syndicates used one Okwusyco Filling Station, located along Port Harcourt road as their operational base and discharge point of adulterated petroleum products and subsequently dispense to the unsuspecting motorist.

Similarly, the command’s tactical team also busted another syndicate of vandals at Akachi Road Owerri, Imo State and arrested three suspects who included Onuoha chibuike who hails from Umuezegwu Ihite iboma LGA of Imo State.

Others were a 27year old Musa Zayanu of Ganye LGA of Adamawa State and Uzokwu Temple, 36 years from Umuofike Agwa in Oguta LGA of Imo State.

The Police Commissioner said that items recovered from the syndicates included three pumping machines, one shovel and large quantities of adulterated petroleum products concealed in cellophane bags.

Flowing the development, the Commissioner of Police has constituted a high powered investigation team with the mandate to monitor all pipeline locations with a view to fishing out the syndicates involved in the vandalisation of pipelines in the state.
