IMN organises interfaith symposium in Ibadan

Published by

THE Islamic Movement in Nigeria (IMN) South-West chapter, over the weekend, organised a median interfaith symposium.

Coordinator of the religious group in the south-west, Muftau Zakariyah, while addressing journalists at a press briefing shortly after the event noted that the Islamic Movement in Nigeria is the only Islamic organisation that organises such symposium noting that the essence is to allow religious leaders across Muslim and Christians lines to discuss how to have an enduring peace.

He further stated that: “Nigerians are unanimous that all is not well with this nation, while we have different solutions to this singular problem, the truth is that we all want a lasting solution. General Muhammmadu Buhari came to power on the massive wave of change mantra which everyone expected. What has gone wrong?.

“Our humble opinion as students and followers of Sheikh Ibrahim Yaqoub al Zakzaky. This is what he has spent years teaching and spent his life practising.

“In 2017 competent court in Abuja gave a judgement that the Nigerian government must release him and his wife Mallama Zeenah and compensation be of N25 million each be paid and a house anywhere he wants in Nigeria. Since the court order has been disobeyed.”

Zakariyah also said that: “Today a court in Kaduna where 234 Shiites have been acquitted for allegedly killing a soldier, is again trying Sheikh Zakzaky for an offence for which he has been discharged and acquitted.

“The court in Kaduna is trying Sheikh Zakzaky as an accomplice to the murder of an alleged soldier, the irony is that this same court has acquitted all the 234 Shiites accused of killing the soldier and yet Sheikh Zakzaky is still being put through a farce of a trial.

“Today the government has failed to project Shiites as terrorists. They have failed to prove that we have ever attacked anyone.

“Finally, we are advising the government and all people of conscience to make sure that our leader is released according to the rule of law.”
