President Muhammadu Buhari has restated his administration’s commitment to improving the quality of education in the country.

He gave the assurances, on Thursday, in Daura, Katsina State as he received the proprietress, principal and students of a private school, Premier Pacesetters School, Daura, at his house.

Buhari said more emphasis will be given to the improvement of education.

A statement issued by Garba Shehu, Senior Special Assistant to the President (Media & Publicity) quoted him as saying: “We will allocate an increasing share of resources to improve learning in the country in our effort to reform the educational sector.”

The President, who interacted with some of the children emphasized the importance of character, in addition to learning, urging them not to lose sight of the aspirations of the country.

The school proprietress, Mrs Celine Friday, conveyed to the President the Sallah greetings of staff and students of the institution and commended the special attention given to education by the Buhari administration.

She used the opportunity to appeal for federal government assistance to private schools in rural communities.

True! Consuming Rotten Tomatoes May Cause Liver Cancer

CLAIM: A Facebook user claims that the consumption of rotten tomatoes, popularly known as Esa in South-West Nigeria, can cause liver cancer.

VERDICT: The claim that the consumption of rotten tomatoes can cause liver cancer is true. The WHO noted that consuming mycotoxins found in rotten tomatoes can lead to long-term effects such as immune deficiency and cancer.

FULL STORY: A Facebook user, Adebisi Yusuff Adebayo, in a post, claimed that rotten tomatoes contain fungi which produce a toxin that may cause liver cancer.

According to the post, boiling and frying it does not help remove the fungi completely.

It reads: “Share with others who buy spoilt tomatoes. Spoilt tomatoes (what Yoruba called Esa) contain a fungi that produces a toxin that may cause liver cancer. Don’t buy it because it is cheaper.I’m committed to improving quality of education ― Buhari
