IGP Squad arrests eight suspects over kidnap of Ex-Gov Dariye’s father

Published by

There are strong indications that Operatives of the Intelligence Response Team of the Inspector General of Police have arrested no fewer than eight persons in connection with the kidnap of the father of a former Governor of Plateau State, Joshua Dariye.

Tribune Online learnt that the squad in conjunction with men of Plateau State Police Command stormed Bokkos local government area of Plateau where the father of the former governor was kidnapped and arrested eight suspects at various locations in the council area.

A cross-section of those who witnessed the operation said the suspects including a “civil servant and another prominent person” in the council area were picked up and immediately whisked to Abuja for interrogation.

A source close to the family of the ex-governor told Tribune Online that the 90 years old man was kidnapped about a year ago and his whereabout was still shrouded in mystery as no news was heard about him whether he was still alive or not.

“So, last week, the IGP operatives stormed Mushere community in Bokkos Local Government Area and arrested some of the residents suspected to be behind the dastardly act.

“We later discovered that the operatives also went to Pankshin and Jos and picked more people. I can tell you that no fewer than eight persons were arrested and taken to Abuja for interrogation over the disappearance of the former Governor’s father and till now, those arrested have not been released,” said the source.

The source further pointed out that at a point the kidnappers were making contact with the family but suddenly stopped thus causing fear and anxiety among family members.

When contacted the spokesman of Plateau State Police Command ASP Gabriel Ogaba simply declared this: “The command is aware of the operation. It was carried out in conjunction with our men from the state command but if you need more information on the matter, you can contact the police headquarters in Abuja.”
