Against the backdrop of payroll fraud that resulted in the overbloated wage bill in the state, Governor Seriake Dickson of Bayelsa State has said that the government would not be tired of verifying workers before salaries are paid, in order to discourage unsubstantiated the N4 billion wage bill for civil servants, which is a fraud because it is unrealistic.
Speaking with newsmen at the DSP Alamieyeseigha Banquet Hall in Yenagoa, Dickson averred that the verification has revealed mind facts that the wage bill was manipulated by a cabal in order to enrich their pockets at the expense of the people.
Dickson regretted that children were also receiving salaries in the civil service, those that did not apply for study leave are also receiving salaries abroad, those due for retirement rely on affidavit to falsify their age to remain in service, while the situation is worsened by the geometric increase in the number of dead workers still drawing salaries from government in the state.
Peeved by the development, Dickson lamented the staggering reality that over 300 workers in Ekerenmor local government were ghost workers, in Brass over 400 workers were ghost workers and same applied to the other six constitutionally recognized local government has reported by the chairman of the verification team in the 8 constitutionally recognized councils in the state.
