Kogi Speaker, Matthew Kolawole
The Speaker of Kogi State House of Assembly, Prince Matthew Kolawole has debunked the rumour making around that he awarded failed contract.
The Speaker who reacted to a story published by online media that a case has been instituted in a court against him by a company, Ce Triple F Global Services Limited over failure to pay a contract sum worth N15.7 million said reacting to litigation would have been needless if not for the need to set the records straight and the need to keep the public abreast of the true position on the issue.
The Speaker who reacted through his Chief Press Secretary, Femi Olugbemi in a press statement issued on Friday noted that the contract which was said to have been awarded under the leadership of Rt. Hon. Alfa Umar Imam has no proper documentation to show that the company truly transacted any business deal with the Assembly then.
“It is imperative to state that the Kogi State House of Assembly under the leadership of Rt. Hon. (Prince) Matthew Kolawole didn’t award such contracts as most of the renovations done on the Assembly Complex are being handled by the relevant agency of government that is saddled with such responsibilities.
“If Engr. Chris Edime is not being stingy with the truth, he would have informed the public that the crux of the matter is the inability of his firm to present the necessary documents for the said money to be paid.
“Speaker Matthew Kolawole, since he emerged as the Speaker of the Assembly has tried to resolve the issue but to no avail as the company could not prove beyond reasonable doubt that they truly have a deal with the Assembly as there were no records of who awarded the said contract, the officer that received those items into the store.
“Though the case is prejudice, the impression created by the published report makes setting the records imperative,” the statement added.
