I crave more government support for music industry ― Heavy Crown

Published by

An up and coming Nigerian musician and rapper, Aluko Oluwatosin Olawale, has called for more government support for the music industry.

The first child in the family of five from Ekiti State said: “I think I’d want more structure in place for the industry as a whole, whereby the government also supports the industry because it is one of our major exports, where people find it easy to push their sounds.

“People don’t get scared of signing deals with record labels, where veterans don’t retire poor after many years of hard work. All these and more summarised into one are the things I’d like to change if I can.”

Speaking further, he shared what led him to the music industry. “The environment I grew up in and how I perceived life at the time was key because I have always felt like I have a lot to say and music is the only language that kept resonating in my mind.

“Many artistes’ sounds I had listened to are Jay Z, Rakim, Kanye West, Vector, Mode9, Tribesmen, MI, Dagrin which ushered me into the music path,” he disclosed.

Aluko who is also a food technologist described that his music is light that answers people’s worries as he tries to be in the listeners’ mind even before the sounds get to the listeners.

He noted that his nickname was coined from everything that took him to grow the talent, finance the talent and push his dream, adding that it also asserts the popular William Shakespeare quote “Uneasy is the head that wears a crown”
