How renewable alternative energy can help Nigeria’s economic growth

Published by

With regular power supply still a perennial challenge particularly for businesses in Nigeria, an independent power producer, RP Global, has called for the exploration of solutions through renewable energy.

According to reports, Nigeria has an electrification rate of 45 per cent and despite this relatively low figure, demand for electricity keeps increasing, especially from the commercial and industrial business sectors, while supply appears to be on the decline.

This inspired the partnership between RP Global, a leading renewable energy developer and investor; and Oolu, a leader in energy solutions in West Africa, to launch Westa.Solar, a commercial & industrial (C&I) solar venture in West Africa to address the energy need, with support from the UK Foreign and Commonwealth Development Office.

According to a statement by RP Global and Oolu, Westa.Solar has delivered a 500kWp solar installation in Kano, which will supply Solar PETRICHOR Industries with almost a quarter of their energy needs as well as improve resilience against frequent power outages. It will also enable the company to minimise its reliance on diesel generators, thereby reducing both overall energy costs and carbon footprint.
