Nollywood actress, Zainab Balogun, has opened up about her battle with endometriosis which left her in bad condition for months and almost forced her to stop appearing in movies and accepting scripts for some time.
The model-turned-actress disclosed that dealing with the ailment was one of the most difficult times of her life and career as it took her on a journey she couldn’t have handled without the support of her husband and family members.
With scripts being turned down because of pain that came with the crisis, among other issues, the on air personality said she feared the end might have come for her acting career.
Speaking about how her trouble started in an interview with Chudeity and shared on Instagram, Balogun disclosed that her periods were irregular for about two months, adding that she had about four periods in two months and it was extremely painful to deal with.
“I often describe it like somebody taking a barbed wire with little sharp cuts and putting it in my stomach and just turning it. I would pass out and would not be able to go to work and school. I went for a scan and they discovered that I had cysts; I had two cysts. One of the two ovarian cysts and they said they would try to eliminate everything till they get to the bottom of it to discover endometriosis.”
The thespian revealed that after a prolonged treatment, a miracle would later happen with further scans showing no more signs of cysts in her body, pointing out that “it was discovered that the problem had disappeared and I had to call off the planned surgery.
“When I did an MRI scan and the doctor told me they could not find anything there anymore, It was a miracle moment. It was wonderful.”
