Oluwadarasimi Olawoyin: Easter is the celebration of the death and resurrection of Jesus , our Savior. Due to the ongoing ‘stay at home,’ the Easter celebration of this year was not celebrated as usual because we were unable to go to church for programmes like Good Friday, Easter Sunday and even picnic that we usually attend on Easter Monday, where we celebrate the resurrection of our Lord with family and friends. All the same we celebrated in our house in the little way we could but quietly.
Ajayi Oluwakemi: I have been enjoying my holiday mostly doing indoor games. My family also found a way to enjoy Easter with music, dance competition and I learnt cooking with my mum. Although COVID-19 disrupted my Easter plan, yet my family found ways to keep tradition alive, despite missing spending time with my extended family. It made me come to terms with the fact that I should not take anything for granted. Especially weekends filled with scheduled events in the pre- COVID days.
Happiness Olalere: This year’s Easter was a very different one because it was celebrated within the family. It fell on the 12th of April, 2020 when there was a lockdown in my state and some other states in Nigeria.
This virus really affected the whole world as it shut down all activities and made the world to be on a compulsory holiday. So, we are all stuck with our family. This made the celebration of Easter very special to me.
Let me give a summary of how I celebrated Easter in spite of lockdown. I woke up to a very lovely morning, my family and I did our devotion, prayed for my grandma as Easter fell on her birthday. We had bought gifts and drinks in preparation for the D-Day. The gifts were shared, food was prepared and we did our house chores.
We also watched the Dove Television where Pastor E.A Adeboye gave a sermon. We ate, drank, sang, played games, shared experiences, stories were told by the birthday girl and many activities took place. Part of the stories my grandma told were funny actions done by my mother in the past and they were really interesting. I loved the life they lived those times and how families bonded those times.
Finally, to me, this Easter was the best celebration ever because I got to spend time with my family and we got to bond. I still feel grief for the negative effect that this coronavirus has caused like the daily increase in the mortality rate of those brought down by the virus. My prayer is that things will be normal again, the infected will recover and peace will be restored.
Oluwadamilola Olawoyin: Easter is the festival celebrated by Christians all over the world to rejoice and celebrate the death and the resurrection of Jesus Christ. It is usually celebrated in the church with lot of programs such as Good Friday, Easter Sunday and Easter picnic. It was not done this year purposely because of ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. My family however celebrated it with our cousins who have been with us since the beginning of the lock down but it was not as we normally celebrated it because we were unable to go to anywhere. We had the celebration right in our living room.
